Shades of Gray

March 5th, 2008 in Celeb Corner by Erin Darling

Macy Gray

For some people, it’s not about what their political candidates say — it’s about how they look.

“I’m for Obama because he’s gorgeous,” smiled Macy Gray. “It’s time we had a looker.”

The quirky singer is also quick to point out, however, that Obama has appealing traits that go far beyond merely the aesthetic. “He’s charismatic,” she opines. “And it seems like he’s one of us. That’s probably the best thing about him.”

In the Grammy award-winning singer’s opinion, it’s difficult to select which issue our future president should tackle first. “There are people at war and there are people suffering here just as much because they don’t get medical attention,” she lists, adding, “You have people suffering because they can’t get education. Also, the situation in Darfur is horrible.”

Although Gray sees Obama as someone who can actually change some of these things — “I believe what he says and I believe he can actually do something” — she remains somewhat cynical about political candidates in general. “You have to listen to them and decide for yourself who you believe because everybody lies,” she says. “You just have to decide who you think is lying the least.”

Sounds like Gray has made her choice.
